AAA AUGER Bathroom Cleaning Essentials

The array of cleaning products on the cleaning supply aisle have become a little intimidating. So, instead of coming home with the wrong product or choosing something that a AAA AUGER Tulsa plumber may not recommend, stick to this list of cleaning essentials. Your bathroom will be squeaky clean and free of harmful bacteria, which can potentially lead to plumbing problems.

1. All-purpose Cleaner

All-purpose cleaners are affordable and easy to find in your local grocery store. These multitasking cleaners fight grease and sanitize all types of surfaces in your and kitchen. You can even use on the floor by adding a little to a bucket of hot water the next time you mop.

2. Rubber Gloves

These can be as stylish as they are functional! Put some on before using any harsh chemical or vinegar-based solutions to protect your hands. Be sure to replace them every few months or when you notice any holes.

3. Magic Eraser

This product may seem small but it can do mighty things with little to no chemicals! Just run it under water and you’ll find out just how versatile and tough this cleaning product is.

4. Sponges

Some people avoid buying sponges because they’re cumbersome and unattractive. Try switching to a microfiber sponge. They are more absorbent and dry faster than normal cellulose sponges, making it easier to store them out of sight when not in use.

5. Toothbrush

Yes, it’s true! Your toothbrush can actually serve an additional purpose. Purchase a few from the dollar store and use them to clean the tiny edges of kitchen and bathroom sinks and any other places that accumulate soap scum and dirt.

» AAA AUGER Plumbing Tulsa Discusses Garbage Disposals

Thursday, June 28th, 2012

plumbing tulsa

AAA AUGER Plumbing Tulsa knows how important your garbage disposal is to your family. The garbage disposal makes cooking and cleaning in your kitchen quick and easy. It is one of the most important aspects of your kitchen.

The garbage disposal was invented in the 1920s by John W. Hamme. The handy device not only diverts solid foods from landfills to effluent disposal systems, but also promotes beneficial bacteria growth.

In order to keep your disposal operating properly, AAA AUGER Plumbing Tulsa suggests always running it with the water faucet turned on. This will keep food particles from building up in your pipes and causing foul odors.

Sometimes, running water during use and cleaning regularly won’t keep your disposal from causing you a headache. AAA AUGER Plumbing Tulsa wants you to know what to do when your garbage disposal quits.

Remember, garbage disposals are electric appliances. If your garbage disposal has stopped working, then first check the circuit breaker. If this is not the problem, then press the reset button.

If neither of these gets your garbage disposal running again, then try a disposal wrench. You can find instructions on how to use a disposal wrench here.

Often times, when these solutions don’t work, it means that the garbage disposal needs professional assistance. When you need your garbage disposal fixed, call AAA AUGER Plumbing Tulsa at (918) 641-5551. And check out the AAA AUGER Plumbing Tulsa Facebook page for more plumbing tips!

» AAA AUGER Plumbing Supply Tulsa Plumbing Tips: The Pros and Cons of Chemical Drain Cleaners

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

AAA AUGER Plumbing Supply Tulsa knows that when you experience a clogged drain, chemical drain cleaners may be where you turn first, but AAA Plumbing Supply Tulsa wants you to understand the effects of chemical drain cleaners.

A chemical drain cleaner is said to be an easy fix for your clogged drain. You can find chemical drain cleaners in liquid, powder and gel form on just about any store shelf. They contain many different substances that release heat in the drain pipe to loosen and clear the blockage.

While chemical drain cleaners are easy fixes, they are also harmful to yourself and to your house’s plumbing. For this reason, AAA AUGER Plumbing Supply Tulsa recommends only using non-caustic additives.

Before using a chemical drain cleaner, be sure to read the entire instruction label and heed all warnings. This can save you an unnecessary headache later.

Because the chemicals produce heat, they can soften your home’s PVC pipes. Many times the chemicals only make the plumbing problem worse and cause significant damage to your property. Also, chemical drain cleaners can cause damage to your septic tank by killing beneficial bacteria.

AAA AUGER Plumbing Supply Tulsa has seen plenty of instances where customers have injured themselves with chemical drain cleaners. They are extremely toxic and can burn your clothing or skin so AAA AUGER Plumbing Supply Tulsa recommends never using chemical drain cleaners.

Don’t use a chemical drain cleaner if the drain is completely clogged. It will leave you with a toxic clog that is now a bigger problem than before. Also, don’t use a chemical cleaner in a clogged drain attached to a garbage disposal. It could have a splash-back effect next time you turn on the disposal.

Save yourself the time and headache from the negative effects of using chemical drain cleaners. For those clogs that just won’t go away, AAA AUGER Plumbing Supply Tulsa is here for you. Give us a call today at (918) 641-5551.

AAA AUGER Tulsa Plumbers Remind You to Fix a Leak

Tulsa plumbers from AAA AUGER will be checking for drips, drops and leaks during this year’s 4th Annual Fix-A-Leak Week. The Environmental Protection Agency and WaterSense are asking Americans to check their plumbing fixtures and irrigation systems for leaks to help conserve water, a resource we can’t afford to waste.

AAA AUGER is checking current toilets for silent leaks, and replacing old toilets with new, water conserving, low-flow toilets.  It is also twisting and tightening pipe connections, checking hoses for leaks, and replacing worn-out fixtures and shower heads. In preparation for the warmer months, AAA AUGER is also checking outside spigots and irrigation systems. We’re on a mission to fix leaks, wherever they may be.

AAA AUGER encourages everyone to do their part to conserve water. Earth may be known as the “water planet;” however, only 1 percent of the earth’s water is available for our use. Since our water resources are finite, we must protect this precious resource. Having your leaks fixed and your irrigation line inspected can save on water usage and monthly utility bills.

Some water conservation facts to think about:

  • In the U.S. an average household wastes 10,000 gallons of water every year due to running toilets, dripping faucets, and other household leaks. That’s enough water for 280 loads of laundry or 600 showers.
  • Ten percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more per day.
  • Common types of leaks found in the home include leaky toilet flappers, dripping faucets and other leaky valves. All are easily correctible and can save a homeowner 10 percent off their water bill.
  • Examine faucet gaskets and pipe fittings for any water on the outside of the pipe.
  • Fixing leaks can save 10 percent on utility bills.

AAA AUGER Tulsa plumber is the expert at leak detection. Full home plumbing inspections are offered including the use of video inspection equipment to pin point where leaks are located.

Look for these signs to see if you have a leak in your plumbing system:

  • Check you household water usage during the winter, when you aren’t using your irrigation system. If your water usage exceeds 12,000 gallons a month for a family of four, you most likely have a water leak.
  • Check your water meter during a two hour period when you aren’t using water. If the meter doesn’t read the same, you probably have a leak.
  • Your irrigation system should be checked each spring, before use, to make sure it hasn’t been damaged by the freezing winter temperatures.
  • Check you toilet tank for leaky and worn-out flappers.
  • Check your shower for leaky shower heads and connections.

AAA AUGER Tulsa plumber can find your leak, no matter how big or small. Call us to stop the water waste in your home and to start saving money on your utility bills.

Quick fix tip: An easy way to save water is to install an aerator on your faucet.

Every drop of water counts, do you have a leak in your plumbing system?

AAA AUGER Plumbing Supply Tulsa

AAA AUGER Plumbing Supply Tulsa understands the importance plumbing has on health and safety. Plumbing is a critical service, as well as a defense against waterborne illnesses. Plumbers keep our water safe to drink and help eliminate pathogenic microorganisms that cause disease. These microorganisms contaminate water we use for drinking, cooking, bathing and washing, accounting for a large number of deaths worldwide. Throughout history, the United States has experienced a rash of disease due to lacking of an effective plumbing system.

Today, Americans enjoy a safe water supply. Local municipalities treat, clean and distribute safe water, which is piped directly for use in our homes and businesses. This water is then stored within the closed plumbing systems of our homes. It is a plumber’s job to make sure the water contained in this closed system remains free of contaminates, safe for our use.

Some countries in the world still lack clean water and a sanitary system to expel and treat waste water. Figures from World Plumbing Day suggest “preventable diseases related to water and sanitation claim the lives of about 3.1 million people per year, most of them children less than 5 years old. Of these, about 1.6 million people die each year of diarrheal diseases associated with lack of safe drinking water and adequate sanitation.”  These numbers are shocking.

The importance of proper plumbing and trained plumbers is significant. Plumbers are responsible for the safety of our most precious resource at the consumer level where if done wrong, serious dangers can result. This responsibility weighs on the shoulders of plumbers who have become the unsung heroes in the battle against waterborne disease.

Without adequate plumbing, we wouldn’t have the society we live in today. Plumbing is the first piece of infrastructure put in place during construction of homes, buildings and cities. We don’t have to look too far to see the devastation that can surmount without proper plumbing in place. Haiti lacked a functioning plumbing system to deliver clean water and sanitation to their devastated region, and Japan is still fixing plumbing problems after a tsunami ravished their country last year.

Plumbing is a significant industry and a major contributor to public health and the environment. At AAA AUGER Plumbing Supply Tulsa, we are proud of our work and happy to be plumbers.

AAA AUGER, the Austin Plumber, Helps Austin Conserve Water

AAA AUGER, the Austin plumber, participates in many different programs to help Austin conserve water and implement green living. Recently, AAA AUGER participated in a city program designed to encourage water conservation this year.  A new water-efficient toilet was offered in exchange for a less-efficient one for approved applicants. A professional AAA AUGER Austin plumber was sent out free of charge (as with all service calls), to pick up the less-efficient toilet. AAA AUGER then hauled the toilet to the FM 812 Resource Recovery Center for processing. The bulk hauling AAA AUGER accomplished helped efficiently and safely transport the recyclables. It also helped the environment by reducing pollution and accidents that could have otherwise happened with those unskilled in such matters.

Another way AAA AUGER is helping Austin save water is by an ingenious water harvesting technique being used on the roof of AAA AUGER. Water is collected and then used to clean vehicles and also used in a Hydrojetter (a process in which your sewer pipes are scoured by streams of high-pressure water). Rainwater harvesting benefits the state by reducing demand on the water supply as well as reducing run-off, erosion, and contamination of surface water.

“Utilizing rainwater to clean out sewer lines and clean our vans makes perfect sense,” stated Ray Hall, AAA AUGER Austin Plumber Business Manager. “We are a local Austin business that cares about Texas and our environment.”
